IPA FAMILY OF MAN Honorable Mention Tony Corocher

IPA 2016 Oneshot Competition: Family of Man – 2 Honorable Mentions for the 2 photos sent

I’m pleased to announce that I’ve received 2 Honorable Mentions for the 2 photos I sent to the “2016 Oneshot Competition: Family of Man” by IPA (International Photography Awards – Los Angeles). These images are also part of my ongoing Project “Beauty In Hell: Beauty over Drama”.

An international distinguished panel of Jurors has selected the winning images. I am very glad to announce that both images I sent were awarded with an Honorable Mention
1. “Power Rangers. Laughing from the heart”. Part of my photo-essay “SONS OF THE MONKS: Children left Behind” (https://www.tonycorocher.com/sons-of-monks-children-left-behind/)
2. “Homescape… Traditional and modern”. Part of my photo-essay “PORTRAITS OF STRENGH: Ethnic Women in North Vietnam”. (https://www.tonycorocher.com/portraits-of-strength-women-in-ethnic-vietnam/).

In 1939 Edward Steichen was given the assignment to curate a show for the Museum of Modern Art, in New York City.  He asked 30 photographers including Cartier Bresson, Eugene Smith, and Dorothea Lange, to document the common links of humanity worldwide. Steichen asked the photographers to photograph the commonalities of Birth, Childhood, Love, marriage, and Death

This year IPA takes inspiration from the Family of Man, to document parallel circumstances in the world today, which produced those iconic works.

A great honor… I’ve been invited to join the New LensCulture International Network of selected photographers.

Most pleased to have been invited by the editors of LensCulture, one of the most influential contemporary photography magazines and networks worldwide, to join their new Selective Network of International Photographers, giving me a fantastic opportunity to show my work to a global audience, to galleries, to editors and to other networks from a higher standpoint.

The world of contemporary photography (photo journalism and documentary especially) has become incredibly competitive and today it is very, very hard to stand out and make a living… but you know, people say stubbornness and passion are very hard to overcome…

LensCulture, Tony Corocher,

I’d like to personally thank the LensCulture team for what they have done so far for photography and emerging photographers like me around the world; thank you for advancing the understanding of a still new and amazing language; thank you for what you for helping, giving opportunities and not discriminating; thank you for been a serious and very professional network…

I will do my best to make sure my future work will be worth of this invitation.

A pleasure and an honor… Featured on LensCulture as one of the “Success Stories”.

What a great, unexpected surprise!!!
I’ve been included as one of the “Success Stories” by LensCulture (London) on the presentation page of the “Magnum Photography Awards” (as one of the 20 winners of the Portrait Awards 2014).

FONDAZIONE GHISLA ART COLLECTION

The nonprofit Fondazione Ghisla Art Collection was founded in April 2014, with the aim of making an artistic holding of international value available to the public, to be shared with all those who recognise art to be an indelible asset.
The collection has been created by the Ghislas, a husband-and-wife team impelled by a growing and eclectic passion for artistic expressiveness. The collection occupies a futuristic building that has just been built as a project by the Moro & Moro architectural studio of Locarno; it is located in the centre of the town just a few metres from the marina.

GhislaArtCollection_small

ARTISTS AND ARTWORKS

The works in the Fondazione Ghisla are laid out in eight rooms over three floors. Their layout is not determined by chronological rigour or by a division by the movements and trends that have characterised the art from the late 20th century up to today. Anyone entering these spaces immerses himself in the taste of Pierino and Martine Ghisla, who over the past thirty years have gathered perfect masterpieces from the Pop Art, Arte Informale, Conceptual Art, Abstract Art and New Dada movements… together with emerging artists who are perhaps less well-known to the general public. Their approach has been as though they were welcoming guests into their own home. Thus in the first room, one sees a Frank Stella in close dialogue with a Christo, while in the third room, Pierre Alechinsky and Karel Appel convey their “cobra” style to the candid geometric rigour of a large canvas by François Morellet, which in turn hangs next to two “organic” compositions by Jan Fabre. And so on. A way to draw the visitor actively into a reading and into the history of these works and their juxtapositions.

Disillusion... Come to church and "the knowledge of God Ministry" will save you from desperation! Welcome to Mathare!!! When I saw this man I immediately pictured him as someone who had seen it all, someone who knew that with or without religion there is no easy way out… Complete, total poverty pushes men to believe, just in order to have a little hope. Right or wrong, it is still a good thing in these desperate situations.

The production process. Inside Makadare, one of the largest markets/slums in Nairobi. People are working on the production of shoes from old tires and other rubber recycled objects. This is where products are made, where the work is done and, normally, people are not allowed to enter here. This place is like a huge labyrinth of tiny shops and small businesses crammed together.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank:

– Sister Flora from Flora Hostel in Nairobi and all the staff that works there. You have been an invaluable help during the last 2 years!!
– Collins, my assistant and guide inside Mathare and around Nairobi.
– The PX3 Prix De La Photographie Paris, and its jury for appreciating and selecting my work.
